How the calculation works

Decode a four-band resistor from its color bands. The tool converts the form units and presents the result using readable engineering notation.

Example

Brown–black–red–gold means 1 kΩ ±5%.

The first band is usually closer to the body edge and the tolerance band is spaced apart.
Confirm with a meter when colours are dirty or ambiguous.
Colour bands do not directly specify resistor power rating.

The result uses a simplified model. Check tolerance, temperature, absolute ratings and the component datasheet.
